Barnegat Light Museum

The museum is in the building that was the one-room school for Barnegat Light from 1903 to 1954.The museum is on the National Register of Historical Places. The Barnegat Light Museum features artifacts, replicas and photographs depicting the history of Barnegat Light and Long Beach Island. One of the major features in the museum is the First Order Fresnel Flashing Lens from the Barnegat Light Lighthouse, which was built in 1858 and was capable of throwing its light 20 miles or more to the horizon. The museum also features a number of artifacts and replicas depict the fishing industry that has historically been a crucial component of the island’s economy.

The Havens Homestead Museum illustrates early Brick Township history through items collected and maintained by the Brick Township Historical Society. The museum is named for Curtis Havens, who purchased a one-room cabin and 52 acres from Samuel Allen in 1827 (five rooms were added to the cabin in 1846). The Museum displays artifacts depicting home life in the mid 18th century to the early 19th century in Brick Township. In addition to the Havens homestead, the museum grounds include the Lizzie Herbert House (c. 1790), a barn featuring a collection of woodworking tools and farm implements, a corn crib, and a cranberry shed which houses a 1900’s cranberry sorting machine.

The Navy Lakehurst Heritage Center’s archives include hundreds of artifacts and thousands of photographs and assorted memorabilia relating to Navy Lighter-Than-Air aeronautics as well as the Hindenburg disaster. Tours of the Center (which include the Hindenburg crash site) are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY and must be scheduled a minimum of 2 weeks in advance due to its location at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

It is the only museum in New Jersey dedicated to presenting the history of boats and boating throughout the entire state including the Delaware River, Delaware Bay, and the Atlantic coast up to Bayonne.

The Toms River Maritime Museum is dedicated to the preservation of the rich maritime heritage of the Barnegat Bay and the State of New Jersey. Operated by the Toms River Seaport Society, the Museum displays its collection of 30 boats and artifacts (including a number of Barnegat Bay Sneakboxes), along with a working shop for boat restoration. The society hosts an Annual Wooden Boat Festival on the waterfront at Huddy Park each July.
