Indian tabla great Zakir Hussain and legendary jazz bassist Dave Holland – both Grammy winners – make beautiful (world) music together as Crosscurrents. Well-known for his work on the Planet Drum series with Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, Hussain’s recorded more than 50 albums over the course of his long career, in genres ranging from jazz to classical to rock. Holland was named an NEA Jazz Master in 2017 and recently deemed “a master bassist and bandleader, and one of the most sophisticated composers and arrangers in the jazz world” by the Boston Globe. Now these two powerhouse performers are bringing their acclaimed mix of Indian classical music and jazz to NJPAC in Newark, with an impressive ensemble that includes superstar Bollywood vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, guitarist-composer Sanjay Divecha, pianist Louiz Banks, sax player Chris Potter and drummer Gino Banks.
