Bridgeton Zoo Offers Visitors Free Family-Friendly Outdoor Fun
The Cohanzick Zoo, New Jersey’s first zoo, has been bringing family friendly fun and education to South Jersey since 1934. Located in Bridgeton’s City Park, the 15-acre zoo is home to over a hundred birds and mammals representing over 45 different species from all over the globe.
The Cohanzick Zoo is small, but it’s the perfect destination for families with small children or for anyone looking for a low key place to spend an enjoyable couple of hours outdoors. You won’t find any of the big crowds that you’ll normally find at some of the area’s more well known zoos. What you will find are lots of fun animals to see like an Asiatic black bear, twin Bengal tiger cubs, gibbons and marmosets, African servals, an adorable Brazilian porcupine, and many more. Admission to the Conhanzick Zoo is free (donations are appreciated), so it makes for a super-affordable, family-friendly New Jersey outing.
The Cohanzick Zoo hosts annual special events such as a spring KidsFest, Boo At The Zoo during Halloween, and the annual Festival of Lights every December. Mondays in July feature Out To Lunch at the Cohanzick Zoo – a free children’s entertainment program featuring great performances that include everything from puppet shows and magicians, to zoo presentations and everything in between.
Another plus to visiting this Jersey gem during the summer time is that just adjacent to the Cohanzick Zoo is Bridgeton’s fabulous splash park! This 7,500 square foot oasis of fun features everything from buckets and fountains to water wheels and cannons, all designed to “shoot, spray, mist, and pour water on hot bathers looking to beat the heat on steamy summer days”. Admission to the splash park is an affordable $3 per person for a two hour session. Water shoes are required (flip flop not permitted), so be sure to plan accordingly.
