The Atlantic City Aquarium
You can still enjoy the water on a rainy day at the Jersey shore. Visit the Atlantic City Aquarium and get an up-close and personal view of aquatic life native to the Jersey shore. The 25,000 gallon “Fish of the Mid-Atlantic” exhibit features a “Dive and Dine” show during which visitors can watch as the aquarium diver feeds and swims with rays, sharks, and other fish. The Naval Air Station (NAS) Wildwood Aviation Museum is a fun and educational activity for a rainy day at the Jersey shore. Located at the Cape May Airport, the NAS Wildwood served as an active dive-bomber squadron training facility during World War II. A visit to the planetarium is a great rainy day activity and one of the most active planetariums in New Jersey is located at the Jersey shore! The Robert J. Novins Planetarium offers a wide variety of traditional planetarium shows suitable for preschool-aged children through adults, as well as more than a dozen different musical laser shows and other special programs such as “Pajama Night”. Its recently updated sky theater features innovative new technology in the form of a virtual 3-D video space which allows visitors to explore the wonders of the universe in exciting new ways. Can’t enjoy the rides on the boardwalk due to the rain? Visit Funtime America – an indoor amusement park in Eatontown, New Jersey! The Sea Life Educational Center
The Sea Life Educational Center at the Marine Mammal Stranding Center features 25 life-sized replicas of marine animals, all found or stranded in New Jersey waters. In addition, educational displays explain the plight of marine animals that ingest ocean debris. A “Please Touch” display of marine mammal bones features a dolphin spinal column, sperm whale’s jaw bone, and skulls, vertebrae and rib bones of small and large whales. A 1000-gallon outdoor observation tanks is on display between May and September. The tank is stocked with fish gathered on weekly seining trips which are open to the public.
